About HWK9's

We here at Howlin' Wolf K9's pride ourselves on producing quality working bred Australian Shepherds and American Foxhounds. Each dog is Health Tested and have their OFA's by the time they are 3 years of age, and prior to breeding to ensure all of our dogs are healthy. This ensures that we are blessed with many healthy puppies. If by chance a dog has not had their OFA's prior to breeding but passes genetic health testing and temperament testing, then they will have one litter that will be solely "pets" only (no breeding rights given - no exceptions).  After the first litter, they will be reevaluated and then scheduled for their OFA's.

Health Testing

All of our dogs have health testing done through Canine Healthcheck (CHC) as our main lab, or through Embark. Each lab provides a list of tests performed, but only CHC provides the base pairs for Merle.
OFA's include: Hips, Elbows, Cardiac, and BAER.

Public Services

Board & Train - Not Available At This Time

We give all of our veterans, the disabled, and first responders the ability to keep their puppy with us for training, be it for service work prior to going to a program, or just for basic obedience training if they are unable to provide this at home due to a busy schedule, or some other reasons they may have.

Sponsorships - Sponsor a Puppy for a Veteran in Need

Sponsor a puppy for a veteran or disabled individual to receive a professionally trained service dog to help them mitigate their disabilities and to give them back their quality of life and independence. A service dog can be vital in some veteran's recovery, aiding in P.T.S.D (Post Traumatic Stress Disorder) caused by active duty, but they can also be vital in aiding a non veteran with many other disabilities, PTSD included as it does not always include previous combat in the military. Some other disabilities a service dog can help mitigate are: Depression, Anxiety, Seizures, Hypoglycemia, Mobility, and Autism.

About Our Facility

Our kennel & whelping / nursery room is currently under construction as we are updating electrical to the pre-existing building, adding insulation, and leveling out the concrete floor prior to sealing it. Our kennels will look like miniature horse stalls with sliding doors on each kennel, and folding gates will be installed for a puppy play area that will be in the center of the building for when ever the weather is bad or for when the pups are not old enough to adventure outside. We will also be adding in a vet / grooming station that will even include a treadmill. We are upgrading everything to the best of our ability for the comfort and health of our beloved dogs. To get an understanding of our facility before it is ready for visitors, here is a rundown of what to expect. Some ideas may change, while others may remain but this is what we have decided so far:

Kennel Design:

  • (8) Kennels that will be 5' wide x 8' long x 8' tall (or taller) with 4' tall solid diving walls.

  • Each kennel will be fully enclosed with panel fencing for the window sections and doors. This will prevent any altercations that may happen between studs and or our females while they are either in heat or nursing. Some moms can be more protective than others.

  • Each kennel will have a sliding door, though we are not yet sure on if it will be partial panel or full panel but we are looking at our options.

  • Each kennel will have automatic watering system, and may even include an automatic feeding system if we can ever figure out how to do it. If not, they will have swing doors that we can open to give food. We want to make our kennels as disability friendly as humanely possible.

  • Each kennel will have an individual light above them and inside the kennel will be LED light strips along the bottom to illuminate the floor more (sealed off to prevent the dogs from getting at them).

  • Each kennel will have a personalized sign for the dog(s) that stay in that kennel, and a clip board with personalized notes to keep track of heat cycles, litters, grooming, etc.

  • Each kennel will be adorned with hooks for individual leashes, collars, muzzles (we muzzle train ALL of our dogs), etc.

Vetting / Grooming Station:

  • Our vetting and grooming area will include an exam table with leash hook-ups

  • On the grooming side will include a wash station with both hot and cold water

  • We will have shampoos and conditioners in stock that are used by professional groomers to make sure our dogs are clean and shining, whether they just needed a bath, are going to their forever homes, or going to a show.

  • A row of smaller kennels, seen in vet and groomer buildings, will be on one side of our building so the dogs may dry off after their baths. This will prevent them from getting muddy again so soon.

  • Cage dryers will be available for a handful of the kennels that can be rotated to other kennels in use once a dog has finished drying.

  • A cabinet for cleaning supplies will be stationed on the opposite side of the kennels and locked to prevent any accidents from overly excited dogs / puppies.

  • Another cabinet will be placed next to the wash tub that will house all of our dog towels and shampoos / conditioners. This will enable them to be in easy reach if we need them.

  • Wifi will be added to the building for when ever we need to use the computer we will either be adding (if desktop) or if we bring out our laptop / tablet.

  • A refrigerator & freezer will also be added to keep shots, medications, and food / prepped meals both on hand and cold.
