Genetic Health Testing

Here at HWK9's, we take pride in knowing that all of my pups are born from parents that are fully genetically tested. I test my Aussies through Canine Health Check, I do not and will not breed dogs that are carriers for the same genetic diseases together.

We treat all of our dogs as if they were MDR1 affected REGARDLESS of their results, as some dogs have shown to have symptoms to medication a carrier would normally express. MDR1 is the only genetic disease that we may risk breeding a carrier or affected pair together. All Aussies should be treated as affected for MDR1 even if their results come back as clear.

We are slowly working towards having full panel clear Aussies. Now, just because an Aussie is a carrier / affected does not automatically mean they should be disregarded for breeding. If the dog is well put together, then there is no issue, BUT they need to be paired with a dog that is not a carrier for the same disease. We do not disregard a dog from the possibilities of breeding based solely on their genetics testing, though it does play a part.
